The villagers say the same thing to every prince who passes through, thinking they can solve the labyrinth of Aperture castle: 1. Don’t speak once you’re in the castle. That’s how they steal your soul. 2. Don’t listen to anything in the castle. It’s trying to get you to talk so it can steal your soul. 3. Most importantly, remember your own name. If you forget your name you’ll never get your soul back. Most princes can’t manage any of those things. Something about the castle makes it hard to remember the outside world. This particular prince lost his soul in record time, but he succeeded where all the others had failed: He remembered his name. No matter what shape his soul was put in, he never forgot his name, and he never forgot that he was meant to sit on a throne.

Chell’s pretty sure she shouldn’t trust the little gargoyle. He seems harmless, and he TRIES to be helpful. He’s the first ‘living’ thing in Aperture Castle that hasn’t been actively trying to kill her. Maybe that’s what unnerves her. She doesn’t believe anything from this place can be truly friendly, but she doesn’t have much choice at this point. He broke the sleeping spell on her and he claims he knows how to get out of the labyrinth. If all else fails she still has the Portal Staff and her Long Fall boots. 

But she’s still careful never to speak to him. If they never hear your voice, they can’t steal your soul. 

OK, this is ridiculous amounts of cute.
