Aah, I finally got around to timing out these boards…from 2011, ack. Might as well toss ‘em up here.

Some concepts from my backburner’d griffin story, Refugee. Given that the plot involves a griffin society in its stone age (with an individual trying out smelting at one point) I wondered if using pure four-legged griffins might look a little odd handling tools. This was a test to see if I could inject the slightest flavor of bipedalism, to make them feel “primitive” without going too anthropomorphic.
It’s hard! Most of these are too “critter,” with a couple that are too “anthro.” The guy second from the top left was the first one I drew, and remained my favorite throughout. Still not sure what to think of the experiment or its results, but I’m glad I did it?

And after I played around with Red, I tried to draw P-47s from memory. It took a while to get back in the groove, but a couple turned out OK (the tail stabilizers are all teeny though… oh well). Included a detail of my favorite one, too. :B

I was thinking of trying to do Inktober, but I can’t maintain a daily thing like that with my existing workload. However, I always take Sundays off to relax and draw my own stuff, so this past one I spent working on my fighter pilot again.
Gotta practice more at this inking stuff - I’m awful and sketchy X) Need to do some general human studies again too, hmf.

This is based on a weird dream I had last night.
I was returning from some kind of vacation, and got a ride home with some other folks that had been on the trip. On the last main road before entering my neighborhood, a meteor streaked by fairly low in the sky. Suddenly, I found myself on the sidewalk a block from my street. With all my stuff in tow I hurried toward home, not sure how big that meteor had been or how close it would hit. I kept my eyes on the ground as I ran, which is a bad habit of mine.
On an impulse I stopped and looked up, and was baffled to find that the sky in front of me was suddenly night, but lit up almost purple with a bazillion stars. Behind me, the sunset sky was still intact. The line between the two was directly above, and the stars were distorted at that edge. Something big had definitely happened.
Then time slowed and I got this weird weightless feeling as I kept struggling to run home. And then out of nowhere there was a news report that a huge crater had been blasted into the earth and Australia was gone?
Just wanted to try and draw that weird sky. :v

One day the character designs are gonna click and this concept is going to grow up into a real comic X)
Right now I’m playing with a simpler style, closer to the one used by George Rarey (the airman artist who inspired me to do this thing in the first place). Need to do some direct emulation studies though, instead of just making crap up.

Ugh, I keep getting ideas for RPs I have no time to actually join… but at least if I draw them I can get them off my chest, hah.
This lady belongs in the Step City universe, and the key phrase that led to me drawing her was ANGRY IRISH DANCING. (here, have some musical accompaniment)
Isi and I were talking about what her vibe might do, and thought that she could have a kinda earth/fire thing going on. She’d be able to manipulate earth, but the angrier she gets, the more firey, explosive, and out-of-control her manipulation attempts would get.
Or something different and more appropriate for her personality. Which I might have to figure out now. Shoot.
